Farmers, at the end of
the day, are farming to make profits and to make profits, they would need to
limit their operational costs.
Now traditional
irrigation methods and systems are inefficient. They compel a farmer to:
● Heavily rely on
groundwater reserves which can drastically deteriorate the land and have
negative impacts on the environment
● Source irrigation water
from wastewater treatment plants or the local authorities at hefty prices.
● Install heavy-duty pumps
to consistently pump gallons of water into the field, thereby increasing their
electricity bills as well!
All of these solutions
are liabilities in the long run since they leave a farmer washing down a lot of
financial resources down the pipeline!
That won’t be the case
with drip irrigation systems since these
systems use fifty percent less water than traditional irrigation systems.
Furthermore, one wouldn’t even need to invest in several heavy-duty pumps. Only
a single pump with medium to low capacity would suffice.
